the biggest bummer about the heat…..
….is that the wild blackberries, which are ripening now…..taste bitter.
They look great, but don’t taste great.
It’s probably more about the lack of rain than anything. Without enough water, the fruit develops, but they’re not nearly as sweet as they should be. One option would be to water, but it seems ridiculous to expend energy to pump water from a well to put a sprinkler on the woods.
Nope. Won’t do it.
Temps have been in the high 90s to 100 for almost a solid week now. Smarty us ran off to the cabin for six of those days – Fishing Creek was cold and we’d sleep with a fan, but would wake in the mornings and pull on the quilt, and wear flannel shirts for the first few hours each day. Lucky.
We’re always glad to come home…..but it’s brutal out there. Grateful for air conditioning and cold showers.
I guess the birds can have the wild blackberries this year.
