Everything you ever wondered about the HMS Bounty, answered
…right here – in a powerfully told story by Kathryn Miles in Outside Magazine online.

We all wondered about that tall ship that sailed right into Hurricane Sandy, the HMS Bounty replica. What on earth was going on there, what happened that they would take such risks and head out into a hurricane?
Here’s the story – all of the stories – melded into the one story that explains why she went, why the crew all joined in, what happened out there and why. Wow.

Thanks for publishing this Kathy! I wondered why that ship was put in that position. If there is a seafarer’s heaven, that captain will want to avoid a guy named William Bligh who will never let him forget his folly. When Bligh and a few loyal crewman from the original Bounty were cast adrift in a rowboat in the middle of the Pacific with only a sextant and a pocket watch, without charts or compass, they traveled over 3600 nautical miles to safety in the Dutch West Indies. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore!
