5:00 rush

Funny, I’ve been noticing the 5:00 rush in Mayberry lately – cars screaming down the street to get to the landing to watch the sunset. A week ago, some visitors walking called out – “you missed it!”, as they walked back up to their weekend rental.  But we continued on down…….even after the big orange ball fell below the horizon, knowing that the sunset is WAY more than the silly five minutes watching the ball drop – it’s a good hour or two around it all – twilight. We meet neighbors down there – many of us walk down at one time or another during the day. Sunset is more like “happy hour” than any one little five-minute thing – it’s a stretch of time. But I totally appreciate the intent of those folks who drive on down to our neck of the Bay, for a last connection with the water before the ball drops and darkness takes over, and I’m glad they come to see it.
