3 Billion, 417 Million…..

…pounds of broiler chicken was grown on Delmarva in 2010 alone. Think about that.  And 980,055,000 pounds of corn and soybeans to feed them. No wonder you don’t see anything else growing on Delmarva. Corn and soybeans. And chickens. 15,000 chicken company employees and 1700 chicken farms.  All on this soft, squishy 5454 sq mile sponge of a peninsula. And a regulatory environment that’s about to get a whole lot tougher for them.

Delmarva is home to roughly one and a half million people, “about two Baltimores, spread across a flatland 73 times as big”, says Tim Neville in the NYTimes.

And as of yesterday, short one chicken. This one, roasted at 400 degrees for an hour.
