A BIG celebration in Claiborne

On May 1st, the men, women and children of Claiborne celebrated in a big way. This date marked the official opening of Claiborne Village Hall, the old Methodist church which has been purchased by the village and is now a community center. The date also marks the official retirement of Martha Hamlyn and Jim Richardson from US Postal Service after 30 years, with a new self-serve post office stationed in the Village Hall. Some 150 friends and neighbors celebrated on a perfect Sunday afternoon. Can you say Norman Rockwell? With total respect, I am serious – this little village is self-directed and organized. And they know how to throw a good party – two bands, raffles, t-shirt and hat sales, balloons, chicken grilled in the churchyard and two big tables filled with homemade food. Congratulations, Claiborne! Yet another shift in your rich history.
