EARTHQUAKE!

Whoa!

Sitting at a board meeting of the Talbot Interfaith Shelter on the first floor of the Unitarian Church in Easton, everything was in order until the table started jumping around. Whoa! At the same moment, five people said – “earthquake!” And indeed, it was.

And it went on. And on. And someone got up and stood by the door and people kept saying – for a good 45 seconds or a minute – “wow, it’s still going…”

Kevin said our porch was shaking independent of the house which was also shaking – and his truck was jumping around in the yard.

Doesn’t happen much. In my 50 years – twice – once in Lancaster, PA in 1980. Woke us out of bed and into the street in the middle of the night. All the neighbors were there too, which was a comfort. Once in St. Louis around 2007 – a BIG ONE that woke us up in the middle of the night when we were living in an ancient brick warehouse. Freaky.

Cool, though. The power of the earth, booming from its center. Vibrations. Energy. Power outside of ourselves (and our stressed out little brains which think they control everything – hardly). I like the idea that the Earth has dominion over us. Honestly, I think most Americans would say that we should be in charge. I’m perfectly willing to ride along, not in charge, on Earth’s game.

You?

One Response to “EARTHQUAKE!”

  1. Made the news to us all the way across the Pacific. I remember the first earthquake I felt – and my husband ran to steady the flat screen TV – priorities 🙂
