Sticking together

I was flying down the road yesterday, and saw something out of the corner of my eye – whoa.

What IS that black thing down there?

Oh, two vultures. Look at them, drying their wings in the middle of the road. I sat and watched them for a few minutes. A team.

Then, a little later – in Claiborne, look here – on the church roof:

The same ones? I don’t know.

But looking at the photos this morning, and thinking about “family” and how we help each other, how we share our lives with our partners, I felt a flood of appreciation for Kevin – my partner. For sticking together all these years, sharing, each of us offering our best to the world and to each other. Well….. sometimes not. Sometimes our worst selves come forth. But we know to look for and expect that best side. When you feel rotten, and you’re behaving badly, isn’t it fantastic when your partner can just ignore that, reach out and bring forth your best parts again?

We’ve got each other’s backs, like these vultures do. We’re sticking together.

Thank you!
