February?

Really?

It was in the 60s yesterday, the first of what’s usually the most miserable, lonely, grumpy month of all. Shhh! Maybe winter forgot to visit us this year. I am totally willing to go along with that.

The best part of the day was late afternoon, when we hung out on the dock, telling stories about our adventures of the day. Sitting, listening to the sounds of the water, we heard voices……voices laughing! A taste of spring!

The second best part of the day was a quick visit to Claiborne landing, which always makes my heart soar. And a drive down one of the most beautiful lanes in America. Lucky? O yea.

Grateful!

  1. Crazy, ain’t it? This is certainly one of the mildest winters I can remember. Water temps in the Bay have yet to fall below 40*F – very unusual for late winter.

    • What kind of effect does that have on fish, etc?

      • Harsh winters can kill crabs while they snooze in the mud – so if things stay mild, 2012 could be a good year for crabs.

Oysters stop feeding when temps fall below 40*F, so a mild winter would allow oysters to continue feeding (and growing).

Fish-wise, I understand stingrays don’t mind a cold winter – they just put on their ice “skates”.

  2. good one, Johnny….skates.

  3. Wednesday’s temps were just unreal! We’re missing our migratory birds because of the mild winter, BUT could be a good year for crabs?! (keeping fingers crossed) YUMMY & FANTASTIC!
