postcard from Bethany Beach

A wonderful weekend in Bethany Beach, Delaware with the Bosin family for two birthdays (85 + 51 = a lot to celebrate!) The condo was great, and was even greater after the owner said she’d comp us another weekend this winter to make up for the jack hammering.

Lots of dogs on the beach this time of year, early sunrises, and the big full moon rising over the water was splendid. So much delicious food, last crabs of the year, THREE birthday cakes. Appreciate this special family! Happy Birthday Dad and Ed!

  1. Is the old coast guard fortifications still there

    • Yes – the beach towers? There are 3 or 4 of them between Bethany and Dewey, along those gorgeous miles and miles of shoreline that Delaware so wisely protected so many years ago. Can you imagine the development that would be there now if it weren’t for that decision so long ago? Thank you, Delaware leaders from long ago.

  2. weren’t those for spotting submarines in ww two. do you have any history. I might copy your answer to my Chesapeake writer blog giving you credit. Tommy. achesapeakewriter.wordpress.com

    • There’s a ton of great info and photos out there – I just googled “history of de seashore towers” and you’ll find great info for a post and good researchers who deserve the credit – I’ll look forward to reading it!
